Why GATE is a great work of art?

Hi guys I just finished watching GATE in Netflix and it is totally one of the best anime that I have watched so far. This anime started airing since 2015 and I definitely regret not noticing this anime because of academic reasons. This epic series was written by Takumi Yanai and Illustrated by Daisuke Izuka and Kurojishi and became a hit in 2017 when it sold 4.2 million copies for season 1 solely in Japan.

The plot started in modern-day Japan in Ginza, Tokyo when suddenly a portal-gate from another world appeared and a legion of soldiers and monsters started attacking the city causing turmoil. Then there was Yoji Itami, a reserve JSDM officer, and otaku saves the civilian and was granted the title of being a hero. Months have passed and he was sent to the other side of the gate to investigate life beyond the special region and his adventure became a history.

Why this anime is a great work of art? Not simply because of its good animation and catchy characters but also because of the anime as a whole. Here are some of the key points that I pondered while watching the anime.

1.       This anime promoted cultural diversity. A literary device to understand how the ancient culture and modern-day culture would look like how old fashioned is former and how convenient is the latter.

2.       The race is still a problem! Remember how the Empire citizens treated other races especially the case of Zorsal and Tyuule. This anime also enabled me to understand that racial discrimination will just end to unending hate and revenge and this happened to this series which caused lots of troubles.

3.       Japanese culture. It’s been a while since I visited Japan in the same place where this story started but I can attest that the Japanese hospitality that was highlighted in this anime is the same in the reality. Aside from warm hospitality, Japan’s compassion to ensure the welfare of humanity (other races) was also highlighted.

4.       The political role of the military and modern-day conquest will also be seen in this anime and for a moment understanding this enabled me to fully grasp how politics and warfare exist hand in hand to achieve the greater good.

5.       Be cool like Itami! The main character also enabled me to think clearly in every situation that you will have in your life just like as he struggled in saving the Coda Village, defeating the Flame Dragon, and saving Princess Piña Colada. It made me understand that your heart will dictate what you love but you should let your mind do the work to properly achieve it.
